Caught Avatar in 3D last night at GV, Plaza Singapura. Yes, I know, the movie has been released for quite some time already, but I haven’t had the time or the company to watch it. It was only on new year’s day that one of my friends was free to watch with me. Yeah, that’s kinda sad.
Anyway, everyone’s been telling me how super, great, awesome and fantastic it was, so I was really anxious to see for myself how great the movie really was. Since we were watching it in 3D, we had to don 3D glasses. However, the glasses were simply too tight as they did not fit my big face, and because I am assuming the glasses were made for caucasians, the glasses did not sit well on top of the bridge of my nose. Therefore, for the duration of the whole movie, I had to constantly move and shift the glasses to make it less uncomfortable, and also prop my arm on the armrest and use my fingers to hold the glasses upright properly. Sometimes, the glasses were so irritating that I would take them off and watch the movie all blurry instead.
As uncomfortable the glasses were, it was nevertheless interesting to catch my first 3D movie. Everything seemed to pop out of the screen, and it really gave you a sense of depth.
Overall, the movie was not bad. The graphics were nice, but I didn’t feel that they rocked my boat. Honestly, it’s the 21st century and it’s a movie directed by James Cameron, the graphics should be at the very least, this ‘good’. I was waiting patiently for a scene which would blow my mind away, but instead, I kept saying to myself “Yeah, ok, that’s quite nice, but where’s that amazing scene everyone’s talking about?”
I don’t know about you, but I would think that the 2D version would suffice. Why pay more money to wear a pair of uncomfortable glasses which by the way, also darkens the brightness of the film? That said, do not let my opinion discourage you from watching it in 3D though.
I would give this movie 4 stars out of 6
